Robotics & Drives Services excels in providing unparalleled agility, exceptional throughput, and optimized space utilization for intricate pick-and-package operations tailored to specific requirements.
Rockwell Automation, Inc. (NYSE: ROK), the largest global player specializing in industrial automation and digital transformation, has announced a groundbreaking collaboration with Robotics & Drives Services (RDS), an Irish company. RDS is revolutionizing the strategies of its e-commerce clients in handling variations in throughput, product diversity, and changeovers through the adoption of the MagneMover LITE Intelligent Conveyor System (ICS).
Headquartered in Mullingar, Ireland, RDS is a leading robotics systems integration OEM operating across multiple blue-chip consumer companies globally. These companies utilize RDS machines within dedicated pick-and-package cells housed in logistics warehouses, primarily for a leading global e-commerce enterprise. While this approach is well-established in the U.S.A., its adoption is rapidly expanding in Asia and Europe. RDS specializes in providing equipment with exceptional flexibility, recipe management, throughput rates, and reliability.
The clientele of RDS, with their extensive product ranges and varying order volumes, demand high levels of adaptability, necessitating machines capable of multi-tasking and accommodating diverse product types. Given these demands extend to product-transfer technologies, the MagneMover LITE ICS emerges as the optimal solution due to its extensive motion profiles, adaptability, and swift changeover capabilities. Furthermore, it seamlessly integrates with widely used third-party systems.
Alan Hanniffy, program manager at RDS, emphasized, “Today’s e-commerce landscape demands adaptability, speed, and quality. Our machines need to offer versatile capabilities within limited spaces, driving us to seek agile solutions like the MagneMover LITE ICS, which enhances our capabilities. This aligns with our goal of addressing our customers’ evolving challenges, such as achieving greater savings, higher ROI, and enhanced efficiency.”

He continued, “Mitigating project risks is also crucial. Utilizing Rockwell Automation’s Emulate3D virtual commissioning software allows us to develop ‘right-first-time’ designs more efficiently, significantly reducing project lifecycle risks.”
Phil Hadfield, sales director for Northern Europe at Rockwell Automation, added, “Agility in both machine and in-plant logistics is as critical as the automation technology itself, ensuring the full realization of digitalized architectures. The deployment of our MagneMover LITE ICS exemplifies the level of flexibility that can only be achieved with a smart servo-based conveyor solution.”
Both platforms are set for further deployment in a research and testing loading cell within RDS’s dedicated R&D center. This facility, currently under construction, will serve as a customer-experience demonstration hub, showcasing capabilities and technology partnerships to potential clients. It will also focus on researching new approaches and the latest innovations to present to existing and emerging customers.
