Convenience store leaders made it clear that frictionless is the future at the 2021 NACS (National Association of Convenience Stores) Show, where Mashgin’s Touchless Self-Checkout System was officially named the top cool new product at NACS’ first return to an in-person trade show since the onset of the global pandemic. Among 270 new products showcased at the show, Mashgin received the most interest among attending retailers. Retailers voted by scanning a barcode next to the product in the “Cool New Products” showroom to learn more about Mashgin and find their booth location. Winning this top spot at NACS further validates Mashgin’s recent Stevie International Business Award for “Retail Company of the Year.”

Attendees of the 2021 NACS Show were also able to experience Mashgin upon arrival to and departure from Chicago O’Hare International Airport, where Mashgin also recently expanded deployment. View a short video of Mashgin in action here.
Mashgin is the most vetted computer vision powered self-checkout system with over 550 locations that span convenience stores, corporate cafeterias, stadiums, hospitals, and airports. It can visually identify items, including open plates of food, from virtually any angle or orientation with 99.9% accuracy — without the need for barcodes or RFIDs, perfectly consistent packaging or any particular orientations. Customers simply place the items they wish to purchase on the Mashgin kiosk, pay, and are on their way in as little as 10 seconds.
The ability to recognize objects and patterns the way the human eye does is something researchers of computer vision have long pursued. Mashgin’s proprietary technology mimics the complexities of the human visual cognitive system into a simple, but sophisticated system that creates an instantaneous checkout experience that’s as much as 400% faster than cashiers and 800% faster than traditional self-checkout systems. To date, Mashgin has completed over 20M transactions and $155M in transaction sales worldwide.

Mashgin recently introduced new payment integrations for convenience stores and fuel retailers, including an integration with Glory, a global leader in cash technology solutions. The new payment integrations allow customers to purchase fuel at Mashgin kiosks and use cash to checkout even faster than paying by credit card.
“It’s as much a signal for the future of convenience stores as it is an honor to have our technology recognized,” said Mashgin VP of Strategic Partnerships, Jack Hogan. “Mashgin had 290 total kiosks deployed at the start of 2021, and that number has grown by more than 300% to over 900 deployed across 550 locations today. Given the huge surge in requests for deployment by our partners and the rapid rate of adoption, the potential for a ubiquitous frictionless future enabled by touchless technology is more near-term than many realize.”
