SalesTechStar Interview with Mark Walker, CEO at Nue

Mark Walker, CEO at Nue shares some proven practices that can enable better sales-marketing synchronisation and revenue outcomes in this SalesTechStar interview:

_____________

Hi Mark, tell us what a day at work looks like for you as CEO at Nue.io?

It’s a mix of envisioning what the business needs to look like three years from now and focusing on building systems today to keep us moving fast.

A big part of the job is just context-switching at speed. The problems we’re solving today around revenue infrastructure and monetization didn’t exist five years ago. I spend a lot of time listening to different stakeholders to get insights, perspective and guidance. It’s how you make better strategic and tactical decisions.

How do you drive revenue strategies and align multiple business functions? Top pointers that have worked well over the years?

Start with clarity before you start to worry about alignment. Most misalignment stems from different departments thinking they’re solving different problems.

So you force clarity: What’s the revenue model? What are we measuring? What sales motions are we running?

For fellow SaaS CEOs looking to overcome marketing and sales alignment and growth challenges in 2026—what would you share?

For CEOs trying to fix marketing and sales alignment, my advice is to keep it simple: make sure everyone is responsible for the same outcome.

Marketing shouldn’t just be responsible for leads. Sales shouldn’t just be responsible for closing deals. Everyone should be laser-focused on revenue, retention, and predictable growth.

When it comes to growth, focus on being clear. Prospects are researching you well before they ever talk to sales. If your message is confusing or sounds like everyone else, you’ll be ignored.

Can you take us through the revtech and salestech you’ve often relied on to drive goals?

You need systems that mirror how you sell, scale how your customers buy, and make data usable across the business.

Salesforce is our CRM of record, but Nue’s the engine that runs CPQ, self‑service, and billing in one place. We also work with a variety of partners. For example, we work with Metronome for real‑time usage metering and rating, especially for complex usage‑based and hybrid pricing models.

In what ways have you been using AI to boost processes and scale results?

The better question might be: where aren’t we? AI is deeply integrated into how we build, sell, and scale. We use AI to streamline processes and it is moving fast into agentic territory, where AI acts rather than simply suggesting.

But AI only works at scale if your systems are clean. If your quote-to-cash data, for example, is a mess, AI will only magnify the underlying issues.

Five fundamentals you feel every SaaS CEO should pay more attention to in 2026 and why?

Revenue infrastructure is about strategic leverage. The most successful companies move quickly because their systems are built to flex.

In an ideal world, you need one system of truth. Disconnected systems are a recipe for operational inefficiencies.

AI delivers when it works with clean, organized data. If your revenue systems aren’t connected and aligned, AI won’t deliver the results that you want.

Your pricing model is a strategic weapon. Usage-based, hybrid, outcome-based is where margin, growth, and competitive advantage intersect.

The pace of change of the pace of change has changed. You need to adapt how you adapt and build for change, not just scale.
